What is it and why should I add Ridge Vent?

When getting your roof replaced, we recommend replacing your existing roofs vents with a new system called ridge vent. The ridge vent is applied at the peak of your roof to allow air to properly circulate out of your attic. This is especially important during summer months when heat is excessive. A two or three inch hole is cut underneath the vent to enable hot air to escape. When air enters through the soffit vent (located behind the gutter and under the overhang) it rises upwards to exit through the ridge at the peak of the roof. A roof without proper ventilation “bakes” in summer months. Over time this can cause your shingle to blister or crack and become brittle. By properly ventilating your roof you will be able to enjoy its new look for many, many years to come.
